An ultra-low-latency 10/40GbE top-of-rack (ToR) switch designed for applications in high-performance data center and computing settings is the Dell EMC Networking S-Series S4048-ON. The S4048-ON offers line-rate L2 and L3 forwarding capability with extremely low latency to enhance network performance by utilizing a non-blocking switching architecture. In order to save valuable rack space and make the transition to 40Gbps in the data center core as simple as possible, the S4048-ON design’s compact architecture offers an industry-leading density of 48 dual-speed 1/10GbE (SFP+) ports and six 40GbE QSFP+ uplinks. Each 40GbE QSFP+ uplink can also support four 10GbE ports with a breakout cable. Additionally, the S4048-ON contains a number of architectural elements that improve the flexibility, efficiency, and availability of data center networks, such as hot/cold aisle airflow from I/O panels to PSUs or vice versa.
